Uitweg ('exit' or 'way out' in English) is B. Carrot's second book. It tells the story of Magda, an elementary school teacher in Warsaw who finds herself dealing with an unwanted pregnancy. The Catholic conservative Polish society and norms combined with the restrictive laws against abortion leave Magda in a tight spot.. B. Carrot was inspired to make this book by the work of ANA, Aborbortion Network Amsterdam, who help people who can't have a legal abortion in their home country. Magda's story is based on numerous stories of Polish people who were in a situation like Magda's. B. Carrot went to Poland several times, for research and sketching, to make sure that everything she depicts matches reality. The book is a work of fiction and not journalistic in the strict sense of the word, but we think it fits with the approach of journalism of Drawing the Times.
