Nova de Hoo lives and works in Zwolle, draws the comic strip "Joy" for Tina every few weeks, and is currently working on a graphic novel about a fictional sex worker. For this latter project, she researched the lives of several sex workers in Johannesburg and their struggles with sex work laws in South Africa. Besides being a cartoonist and comics enthusiast, Nova is also a hopeful activist and feminist. Themes such as women's rights and street harassment are therefore prominent in her personal work. She alternates her drawing and writing with yoga, kickboxing, and deafening singing in the shower.
