Jeroen Janssen lived and worked in Rwanda until 1994, when hell broke loose. He taught at the Art school of Nyundo, the only art school of Rwanda, located in the green hills between the Nile and the Congo river. He returned 20 years later with his sketchbook and his markers looking for the people and places that are etched in his memory. The locals call the people of the Art school Abadaringi, hence the title. These people are the protagonists of the book. Nowadays they are teachers, civil servants, cooks or artists in Rwanda and Europe, and they all share their memories of the school in Nyundo.
The book is published in Dutch at Oogachtend
